Potrero Hill

Potrero Hill, a sunny neighborhood where you're likely to find an available parking place, defies the notion.

Welcome to Potrero Hill

Unlike San Francisco preconceptions, Potrero Hill, a sunny neighborhood where you're likely to find an available parking place, defies the notion. Residents in this tranquil neighborhood are rewarded with the chance to look out and admire the Financial District and the SF Bay on the city's eastern hills. While Potrero Hill is a neighborhood base for many laid-back neighborhood haunts and music venues, the region avoids the rough and tumble nightlife alternatives found in surrounding districts like SoMa and the Mission District.

There was a time when Potrero Hill was home to large warehouses, grocery stores, and several small businesses visited by the residents. When the dot-com revolution took place, many of the warehouses and factories in the region were repurposed into lofts and offices, which eventually resulted in a large-scale change. People here are now quite aware of Third Street as a great place to visit because of its easy access to downtown San Francisco.

POTRERO HILL'S many features include its sunny weather, great vistas, and easy freeway access. There are numerous early Victorians living in this sturdy neighborhood, as it survived the 1906 earthquake.

There are eateries, pubs, and shops lining 18th Street, so many choices are to be made. The pool hall Blooms is named after the book's heroine Ulysses and serves typical bar fare, spectacular vistas, and spectacular people-watching. This side of the Sierra Nevada, Chez Papa serves the most memorable French Provencal bistro cuisine. Don't forget Farley's, a casual coffee-drinking establishment that is open every day of the week for those of you who want strong coffee to face the morning's mist.

Thanks to the nearby California College of Art campus, the California Culinary Academy, and local bar The Bottom of the Hill, which features an outstanding selection of musical performances, students and young people add a lovely touch to an event. 16th and Potrero have numerous shopping and grocery alternatives within walking distance.

Get ready to be seduced by this hillside retreat if you've never been to Potrero Hill.
